Process: The Survey of Student Engagement provides school leaders with insight into the extent that students are emotionally, behaviorally and cognitively invested in their schooling experience.

School mission statements often describe active, student-centered environments that are responsive to and supportive of each student’s social, emotional, and developmental needs. Without a tool to measure achievement of this mission, schools are left to wonder if their students are adequately engaged. Research shows that student engagement is tied to student achievement and is a valuable goal for schools to pursue to tend to the needs of the whole child. The ability to measure Student Engagement is critical for defining and measuring success beyond test scores.
